About

Firstly, it is important to remember the danger that is associated with taking opioids, as there are roughly 100,000 deaths related to opioid addiction and abuse each year. This is because opioids are inherently addicting and are less effective at treating pain over time. When it comes to pain management, more and more people across the United States are turning to medical marijuana for a safer and more natural way of dealing with their chronic disease and pain conditions.

In this blog, I will be going over the use of medical marijuana in regards to pain management, and how it is very effective at treating different diseases and types of chronic pain. Unless you or someone close to you has struggled with chronic pain, you are likely unfamiliar with just how debilitating it can really be. Thankfully, our country is getting more serious about using medical marijuana and finally have begun to understand how incredibly effective it can be.

So on a more ground level, how does medical marijuana actually affect pain? Well it is first important to recognize the components of cannabis before analyzing how it actually affects the brain and the body. If you were not aware already, there are two main compounds that make up cannabis: CBD and THC. CBD is a shortened term for cannabidiol, which is not the part of the plant that gets you high. Instead, CBD is great for reducing inflammation and pain at the sight of the injury or problem, and it can also make the patient feel more calm and relaxed at the same time. Do you know how CBD does this? Amazingly, using CBD makes your cells repair cells instead of producing inflamed ones. CAnnabis can really affect your body at the cellular level! Also, it is true that CBD can lower levels of pain by dampening the signal to the brain that causes pain. There are certain compounds in the brain that reduce or heighten levels of pain throughout the body, and CBD can regulate these to a more manageable level.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol (what a mouthful), is the part of the cannabis plant that contains psychoactive components. THC is the part of the marijuana plant that actually gets you high. Luckily, THC is also great for relieving levels of chronic and severe pain. It does this by reducing levels of inflammation, and also triggers the CB1 and CB2 receptors in your brain, which actually affect how the body experiences pain. With these two compounds mixed together into one great plant, it is no wonder why so many people are beginning to use medical marijuana to treat and manage their pain and other health conditions. Cannabis can treat all types of pain, including tissue damage, nervous system pan, neuropathic, and nociceptive pain. Cannabis is truly a miracle plant.
